Zoo Safari

Kallie's first trip to the state of Kansas entailed visiting the Safari Zoological Park.  This place was featured on Animal Planet when a dog nursed 3 tiger cubs when the mommy rejected them back in 2008.  It was really neat to see some of the animals close up.

They tend to rile up or interact with the animals more to showcase their power and size.  Here the monkey got upset because Kyle put his arm around the lady guide, who he thought was part of his group and another male should not be acting like she is his.  The baby monkey is out of focus but it was so cute.  I think at this point Kallie was more interested in her crackers.

Here are some lions, tigers, and leopards.  The white tiger is the dad of the tiger triplets.  It is amazing how huge and powerful they are.

We also saw bears, kangaroos, hyenas, and more monkeys.  They got the hyenas to scream/laugh for us.  The guide said one of the owners raised the bear since he was baby and will let him get in the cage with him, give him high fives, etc.  The tiger triplets are in the middle picture.  They were about to play the Tiger Splash game.  The owner would throw chicken into the pond and call out one of the tigers' names.  That tiger would jump into the water for the chicken.  Here they were pretty excited.  By this time, it was almost noon and Kallie was hungry and getting tired.  And all she had to eat were goldfish and animal crackers.

They had animal crackers as feed sacks for some of the animals.  Here are some lemurs we could feed animal crackers.  We could also feed the monkeys and bears.  One of the lemurs was small enough to get out of the cage so he would just run around outside.  I think Kallie ate most of our feed bag.

The park has a VIP package where you could touch and take pictures with some of the animals like the kangaroos - which supposedly have softer fur than a bunny.  We may have to go back when the tigers or leopards have babies.  I'd love to hold a cub.  I mean Kallie would love it.
